Dry ice blasting cleans surfaces by firing small pellets of solid CO2 (dry ice) with compressed air. The pellets knock grease, grime and loose buildup off the surface, then turn straight into gas, so the only thing left is the dirt that came off. Dry ice is extremely cold (about -109°F). That cold makes grime brittle and breaks its grip on the part underneath, and the impact lifts it off. I run ICS dry ice blasters in the shop and adjust pressure and pellet flow to the job, so it's gentle on delicate areas and more aggressive on caked-on grease.

No water is used at all, and the dry ice itself disappears as gas. What's left is the grime that came off your vehicle, and I clean that up in the shop. Because nothing is wet, I'm not pushing water into seams, connectors or frame rails, and there's no drying time. There's also no sand or other blast media to dig out of crevices afterward.

Sandblasting is abrasive: it wears away the surface along with the dirt and leaves grit behind. Pressure washing uses water, which can get into electrical parts and seams. Dry ice is non-abrasive, completely dry, and leaves no media behind. That's why I use dry ice on cars I care about. It cleans without sanding down original finishes, and without soaking wiring and sensors. It's a cleaning method, not a stripping method, so it won't take a part down to bare metal the way sandblasting can.
